Winslow, AZ (April 3, 2024) – A catastrophic accident occurred on Interstate 40 eastbound near Winslow on the morning of April 3, leading to multiple fatalities and critical injuries. The accident, which took place before 8:00 a.m., involved a pickup truck carrying eight passengers and resulted in the vehicle overturning multiple times.
Among the deceased were a 4-month-old infant, a teenage boy, and a man in his 50s. Emergency services responded promptly, and the five other occupants who sustained critical injuries were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care. The incident, which did not involve any other vehicles, resulted in a temporary closure of the freeway in the proximity of the Little Colorado River, although it was reopened within the hour.
Officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety are on site and the investigation into the precipitating factors of the rollover is currently ongoing.
